Learn to Row

Adult Learn to Row

FCRC welcomes people of all ages and abilities to get involved and try rowing. We run a 4 week learn to row (LTR) program for adults occurring on consecutive Sundays from either 8am or 10am for 2 hours, followed by a further 2 weeks in our developement squad for those that wish to continue.

The cost of our 4 week course (plus 2 additional sessions in the Development Squad) is $200. Those people who complete the course and then decide to join the club will be given a $100 discount on membership.

Registration and payments for the learn to row program are now available via the link belwo on our website https://www.footscrayrowing.com.au/events/

Risks

Rowing is an outdoor water sport. It requires full body movement. Sometimes there is a current in the river, perhaps a strong wind, rain, or even a hot sun. We teach people in “tub” boats that are much safer than normal racing sculls. We will only permit LTR participants who can swim 50 metres.

What to Bring

We encourage you to wear tight fitting clothing such as a T-shirt and bike shorts. With the water reflecting the sun, please consider a hat and sunglasses. Thongs or flip-flops are appropriate footwear with a spare pair of socks to wear in the boat.

Please also bring a drink bottle and Ventolin or other medication if required.

What happens after LTR?

Following completion of the 4 week LTR program, rowers are then invited to join our Development Squad for a further 2 weeks of coaching on Sunday mornings from 8:00am - 9:30am. Following the completion of these two weeks, rowers who then wish to continue will need to join the club as a member. The development squad builds on the basics taught during LTR and prepares rowers for integration into either the Senior or Masters competition squads is desired or the ability to continue rowing socially with our other members.
