Acknowledgement of Country

The Footscray City Rowing Club and members would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which our shed is located, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and we pay our respect to their Elders past and present.

Aboriginal people have a deep and continuous connection to the place now called Victoria. Aboriginal people have lived in the Maribyrnong River valley for at least 40,000 years and Maribyrnong is an anglicised version of the Aboriginal term ‘Mirring-gnay-bir-nong’, which translates as 'I can hear a ringtail possum'.

We recognise the Aboriginal people's continuous connection to land, sustainability and culture. Sovereignty over this land was never ceded.
